With the war over, John E Blakeley was demobbed and worked for American distributors, American Vitagraph, whilst continuing with his father at the Central Film Agency before breaking away from the family business to open his own, John E Blakeley Ltd, at 58 Victoria Street.

In 1919, the Manchester Film Production Company released their film, The Unveiling of the Chapel Street Roll of Honour (NWFA link: 5:15 mins)
and in the same year Gerald Somers opens the Lancashire Film Company with a studio in Banba Hall off Oxford Road near All Saints.

BIRTHS:
1918 - Actor Brenda Bruce born 7 July in Manchester (d. 19 Feb 1996).

1919 - Actor Peter Butterworth born 4 February in Bramhall (d. 16 Jan 1979).
1919 - Actor Beryl Reid born 17 June in Hereford (d. 13 Oct 1996). She grew up in Manchester where she attended Withington and Levenshulme High Schools.
