| 1954 - 1955 | TELEVISION ARRIVES ... |
1954 - David Lean directs Charles Laughton, John Mills and Salford-born Brenda De Banzie in Hobson's Choice set and shot in Salford.
1955 - BBC TV North begins broadcasting from Dickinson Road - shows from there include: Pinky and Perky, Grandstand and Top of the Pops.
1955 - Tom Blakeley directs Mancunian's only colour film which is shot on location in Chester and at the Rampant Lion, Anson Road, Manchester - the film is a 30 minute featurette entitled Lovely Weekend.

1954 - Actor David Bamber born in Walkden on 19 September.
1955 - Actor Gerry Sundquist born in Manchester on 6 October (d. 1 Aug 1993).
